An Offsite Ads order can have very different economics from an organic Etsy order. Sellers should model the rate shown in their account and test whether the remaining contribution profit still meets their target.
Formula and decision rule
Offsite Ads fee = applicable fee base × account rate. Estimated order profit then equals buyer-paid order revenue minus product, fulfillment, listing, transaction, payment-processing, Offsite Ads and other applicable costs. Etsy controls attribution, participation and fee caps.
Worked example
On a hypothetical $50 fee base, a 15% rate produces a $7.50 Offsite Ads fee; a 12% rate produces $6.00. That $1.50 difference is not the full Etsy fee bill—transaction, listing and payment-processing charges still apply.
Do not use one best-case margin
Model at least an organic case and the Offsite Ads rate applicable to the shop. A product that is healthy organically may become unprofitable when advertising attribution is added, especially if shipping is expensive or returns are common.
Pricing response
- Calculate the list price needed to preserve a specific dollar profit.
- Test discounts and multi-item orders separately.
- Do not assume that charging more for shipping avoids percentage fees.
- Recheck Etsy’s current policy before changing prices.
