The Science: 90-Minute Sleep Cycles
Each night your brain repeats a cycle of sleep stages roughly every 90 minutes:
- N1 — light sleep (minutes): the drift-off stage; easy to wake from
- N2 — deeper light sleep (~50% of the night): heart rate and temperature drop; memory consolidation begins
