Etsy Fees 2026: How Much Does Etsy Really Take Per Sale?

On a normal sale, Etsy takes about 10% to 11% of your order total plus $0.45 in fixed fees. That’s the stack: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the full order (including shipping), and payment processing of 3% + $0.25 for US sellers. If the buyer found you through an Offsite Ad, add another 12% or 15% on top — that’s the fee that shocks people.

Quick example: you sell a $25 print with $5 shipping. Etsy takes $3.30 of the $30 order, and $26.70 lands in your balance. Sell the same order through an Offsite Ad and Etsy takes $7.80. Below is every 2026 fee, what triggers it, and the full math on three real orders.

Every Etsy fee in 2026, in order of appearance

1. Listing fee: $0.20

Publishing a listing costs $0.20. It stays live for four months or until it sells. Two gotchas sellers miss:

  • When the item sells, the listing auto-renews and you pay another $0.20. A product that sells 100 times costs $20 in listing fees, not $0.20.
  • Sell a multi-quantity listing and each additional unit in the same order adds $0.20.

On its own this fee is trivial. On a $6 sticker, it’s 3.3% of the sale. Scale matters.

2. Transaction fee: 6.5% of the total order

The big one. Etsy charges 6.5% of the total order amount — item price plus shipping plus gift wrap. Sell a $20 item with $6 shipping and the fee applies to $26, not $20. There’s no dodging it by shifting price into shipping, and “free shipping” listings pay 6.5% on the shipping baked into the item price. Either way, Etsy takes 6.5% of everything the buyer hands over.

3. Payment processing: 3% + $0.25 (US)

Etsy Payments processes the buyer’s card, and in the US that costs 3% of the total sale plus $0.25 per order. The rate varies by country — the UK, EU, Canada and Australia all have their own numbers — so non-US sellers should check the rate for their payment account country in Etsy’s help pages rather than assume the US one.

4. Offsite Ads: 12% or 15% (only when an ad caused the sale)

Etsy advertises listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and partner sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, you pay:

  • 15% of the order total if your shop made under $10,000 in the past 365 days (optional — you can opt out)
  • 12% if you’ve made $10,000+ (mandatory for the life of your shop)

The fee is capped at $100 per order, so it stops scaling around a $667 order at 15%. It’s charged on top of every other fee. This is the fee that turns a healthy order into a skinny one — treat it as a real possibility in your pricing, not a surprise.

5. The smaller stuff

  • Currency conversion: 2.5% — only if your listing currency differs from your payment account currency.
  • Regulatory operating fee — a small percentage in the UK, France, Italy, India, Spain, Türkiye, Vietnam and Canada.
  • Etsy Plus: ~$10/month — optional subscription with listing credits and shop customization. Does not reduce any fees.
  • Set-up fee — Etsy may charge a one-time fee to open a new shop, depending on your location. It’s shown during setup before you confirm.

Same product, same buyer, and Etsy’s cut jumps from 11% to 26%. If your margins can’t absorb that, you either raise prices, opt out (if you’re under the $10K threshold), or cut the listings that can’t carry the fee. We walk through the pricing side of this in How to Price Your Etsy Products.

Fees that apply before you ever sell

Two charges hit your payment account even without an order. First, the $0.20 listing fee the moment you publish — and again every four months when an unsold listing auto-renews. A shop with 200 listings that never sell still costs $40 every four months just to stay open. Prune dead listings instead of feeding them quarters.

Second, the one-time set-up fee Etsy now charges in some locations when you open a shop. It varies by country and is shown to you during onboarding before you confirm, so there are no surprises — but budget for it if you’re opening a second shop.

What about digital downloads?

Digital products pay the same stack: $0.20 per sale (the listing renews after each purchase), 6.5% transaction, and 3% + $0.25 processing. The economics are friendlier because there’s no shipping cost on your side — but note the fees still apply to the full price, and a $3 printable keeps only about $2.25 after Etsy’s cut. Cheap digital items are a volume game; the fixed $0.45 per order is a bigger percentage of small tickets.

Is Etsy cheaper than your own website?

Roughly even, and often cheaper. A Shopify store costs $29–$39 a month plus ~2.9% + $0.30 per card transaction. Etsy charges no mandatory subscription and takes about 10% all-in. Break-even sits around $300–$400 in monthly sales — below that, Etsy is the cheaper storefront; above it, owning your site starts to win on fees alone (before counting the audience Etsy brings you for free).

So, how much does Etsy take? The honest summary

  • Typical sale, no ad: ~10–11% of the order + $0.45 in fixed fees. Most sellers keep 75–85% of the order after their own costs.
  • Sale through an Offsite Ad: ~22–26% total. Budget for it if you’re enrolled.
  • Cheap items under ~$8: the fixed $0.45 bites harder — effective take can hit 15%+ before ads.

Compared to other marketplaces that’s middle of the pack. We put Etsy head-to-head with its closest rival in Etsy vs Amazon Handmade 2026 — same product, both platforms, fee by fee.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?

For a US seller with no ad involvement: $0.20 listing + $6.50 transaction + $3.25 processing = $9.95, or about 10%. If the sale came through an Offsite Ad, add $12–$15, taking the total to roughly $22–$25.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the total order amount, which includes what the buyer pays for shipping and gift wrap. Payment processing also applies to the full amount. Only US sales tax is excluded.

Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?

Only if your shop made under $10,000 in the past 365 days — you can toggle it off in Shop Manager. Once you cross $10,000 in trailing 12-month sales, enrollment is mandatory at the discounted 12% rate.

How much does it cost to list an item on Etsy?

$0.20 per listing. The listing lasts four months or until the item sells, then auto-renews for another $0.20. Editing a listing is free; only publishing and renewing cost money.

Does Etsy charge a monthly fee?

No mandatory monthly fee. You can run a shop paying only per-listing and per-sale fees. Etsy Plus (~$10/month) is an optional subscription with extra tools — it doesn’t reduce your per-sale fees.
